Snow anchors are usually constructed with pickets. The quality of the snow and the method of placing the picket is critical to the strength of the anchor. The best work on this subject has been reported by Don Bogie (New Zealand) and Art Fortini (USA). What they report is essential knowledge for safe glacier travel. Below I have listed important links to their work. It is hard to imagine that anything this important would be left out of Freedom 9. Please check this out. I guarantee it will change the way you think about snow anchors.
