October 2013 the AMGA hosted a symposium on altitude illness. The AMGA website contains slide shows and numerous handouts with up to date information on the assessment, treatment and prevention of AMS, HACE and HAPE. Knowledge in this area is growing as are recommendations. If you climb above 10,000 ft or teach or lead others to climb at high elevation you will want to peruse these materials at the website below. In view of the increasingly larger number of people climbing at altitude it would be prudent to update Freedom 9 with this information. See: amga.com/high-altitude-symposium/

I attended that event and it was absolutely awesome. We literally had the best minds in the world come to talk to us about the research that they've done on AMS, HAPE and HACE as well as a myriad of other things from high altitude drugs to oxygen tents...
Next year they will be doing something similar on high altitude guide techniques. This will also be in Boulder. If this is something you're interested in, it is open to all members and anyone can join.
