From a first glance... Admin has already made some changes
Forum Likes: -simple and straightforward (though think "Freedom 9 content" could move under "General and Process" to allow tech content topics to move above the fold. They are, I assume, what most users will be looking for, so don't make them scroll)
Wants: -ability to "like" posts (maybe avail if I register?), especially since this will give a number sense to approval of certain tech ideas. -resort by, or tab for a page, where I can view only "Active Topics" instead of all topics (note Active is not the same as New - can the phrasing be changed?) Or is there an icon option? Like the flames on CC? -how do I get updates on just the topics I posted to? email option? etc.

I moved this this Post from "This Forum vs. Google Groups" to start this new thread.
At this point we are pretty well committed to this ProBoard Forum. We would appreciate any ideas for tweaking and improving.
We think we have someone working on expanding like/dislike to like/not sure (or need more)/disagree.

- viewers can like/dislike when they are Registered and Logged In. [ we hope to modify this to like/not sure/disagree. ]
- at the top their is a button New Topics. This lists the most recent Posts starting with the newest.
- We can't find an email option yet. Still researching.

Expand this forum beyond The Mountaineers. Include international climbing organizations. "Freedom" is a primary international reference on climbing. Our international partners have a lot to add to the discussion.

I suggest that we keep the discussion format basically as-is and have a separate site, such as drop box or google docs, where we share documents and bulky files such as video. This would allow us to limit access to the files if we need to, without compromising the wide open discussion format. Drop box and google docs allow you to control who sees what files.

Attitude
Suggest (if moderators agree) that we inform participants that we are casting a wide net for suggestions about improving Freedom 9. As I understand it, suggestions and comments (positive and negative) will be weighed later by those responsible for preparing the chapters. That is, the purpose of the forum is to help inform those who later produce the book. If I have misunderstood this goal, please comment. If others feel the need to elaborate on this post, please comment,
